Nail A. Gumerov was graduated from the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1981 (Aeromechanics). In 1987 he obtained degree of the Candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (mechanics of liquids, gas, and plasma) from the same University, and in 1992 he obtained degree of the Doctor of science in the same specialty. In 1981-1993 he held positions from research fellow to senior research scientist at various institutions of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Ufa and Tyumen. His research was focused on dynamics of multiphase flows. Since 1993 he held research positions in the US companies. Since 2000 he is a faculty of the University of Maryland.
Major focus of his current research is related to advanced computational methods (algorithms and parallel computing on heterogeneous architectures) with applications to the problems of acoustics, fluid mechanics, and plasma physics.
Dr. Gumerov authored and co-authored more than 150 peer reviewed publications, and his studies were presented on more than 50 international conferences. In 2004 he published a book "Fast multipole methods for solution of the Helmholtz equation in three dimensions". He is a member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and Acoustical Society of America and is an Associate editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.
